Question 1

What makes Ari Rex the right choice for your photography workshop?

Accepted Answer

With over a decade of experience across Milky Way, Moon, Storm & Lightning, Infrared, Macro, Portrait and Landscape photography, Ari brings award-winning expertise and a practical, hands-on teaching approach to every workshop. His work has received multiple first-place awards in Australian and international competitions, and he has also judged photography competitions at Australian and international levels. Workshops are intentionally kept small, allowing personalised guidance rather than a one-size-fits-all lecture.

Question 2

Which Milky Way photography workshop is right for you?

Accepted Answer

The Standard Workshop is ideal for beginner and intermediate photographers, including those photographing the Milky Way for the first time. The Advanced Workshop is designed for photographers with some experience who want to develop more advanced techniques. Private workshops for individuals or groups may also be available.

Question 3

What camera gear do I need? Can I use a smartphone or hire equipment?

Accepted Answer

You don't need the latest camera to join. Most DSLR and mirrorless cameras made after 2010 are suitable for Milky Way photography, even with a standard kit lens. A sturdy tripod is essential. High-end smartphones are also welcome. Modern phones can capture the Milky Way surprisingly well, provided they offer suitable manual or astrophotography controls. Ideally, you should be able to control ISO, shutter speed and white balance, with longer exposures where supported. You'll also need a sturdy tripod and secure phone mount. While today's best smartphones are remarkably capable, they're not directly comparable to a DSLR or mirrorless camera with interchangeable lenses. Dedicated cameras have much larger sensors and can use fast, wide-aperture lenses, which are significant advantages in very low light. If you don't have suitable equipment, an Astro Camera Kit or individual items such as cameras, lenses and tripods may be available for hire, subject to availability. Whatever you bring, we'll work with your equipment and help you get the best results it can produce.

Question 4

What's the minimum age to join a workshop?

Accepted Answer

The minimum age is 14. Participants under 18 must attend with a parent or guardian who has also booked a place.

Question 5

What's the difference between the single-night and two-night workshops?

Accepted Answer

Single-night workshops run for approximately 4–5 hours and focus on practical night-sky photography in the field. The Two-Night Milky Way Workshop is an immersive residential experience combining field photography, advanced techniques and post-processing, with accommodation and meals included. The Two-Night experience is limited to a maximum of four participants.

Question 6

Can I redeem a gift voucher for a workshop?

Accepted Answer

Yes! You can redeem your Ari Rex Photography gift voucher through the workshop booking page. Choose the workshop and available date you'd like to attend, then follow the booking and checkout instructions to apply your voucher.

Question 7

What happens if the weather doesn't cooperate?

Accepted Answer

Astrophotography depends on weather and sky conditions, which can be unpredictable. Please read the Workshop Terms & Conditions for the applicable weather policy and arrangements. Different terms may apply to the Two-Night Milky Way Workshop. We recommend reviewing the relevant terms before booking.

Question 8

What's your cancellation policy?

Accepted Answer

Cancellation conditions depend on the workshop and the timing of the cancellation. Please read the Workshop Terms & Conditions for the full policy applicable to your booking before making a purchase. Your rights under Australian Consumer Law are not affected.

Question 9

Can I purchase photographic art prints of Ari's work?

Accepted Answer

Whether you're looking for a striking Milky Way image or a unique piece of photographic art for your home or office, browse the collection to find an image you love.

Question 10

Accepted Answer
